Okay, so everyone raves about Google Adwords and people are quite keen on the whole PPC (pay per click) method of raising traffic levels to your site. This is fine, when your activley making money from your site (or just have money to burn…) but I struggle to see how a personal site, with some elements of monetization- could gain from spending what would have to be a minimum of around £50/pcm (or $100 roughly…) for what would work out at about 30 clicks, assuming you more or less let google barter your ad price.

Whilst the value of trageted traffic gained from PPC sites like Google Adwords is high, that is only particularily true when you have reasonably large quantities of visitors- or at least significantly more than the 30 or so you’d recieve from £50’s worth of Google Ad’s!

So is it even worth it? Or, more to the point- is it worth spending your time "self-promoting," by commenting others blogs etc to get less targeted traffic but at a far higher quantity?

I’d say, judging from personal experience, that if your site/blog is not centered around a particular product/or personal service that has a "retail value," and is instead just a personal blog with some scope to make some money through advertising- no, its not worth it initially. Probably in the near future, when your site is seeing far more hits per month, but im inclined to say that to get the ball rolling anyway- a hit is a hit, and if your using advertising as your main source of income from the site- does it matter why the audience are there in the first place???

 Obviously, Google would disagree, arguing all sorts of various settings etc that can be changed to accomodate it, lovingly described in their blog.

Im all for the personal promotion. Cheap, easy, just costs time.
