Call of Duty 5 - World at War

I know this doesn’t really fit in with the rest of the blog topically, but I just cant explain how excited I am about this game.

Since COD4: Modern Warfare came out, Ive been hooked on Call of Duty- the previous games had never interested me as, to be honest, "historical" war games bore the hell out of me and just dont feel real enough.

Having won as many awards as COD4 did its no surprise a follow up was on the way and from what I’ve researched it looks absolutley pheonominal- just look at these screen shots!

Are Google Adwords worthwhile for small personal sites? Or is it worth spending time “self promoting?”

Okay, so everyone raves about Google Adwords and people are quite keen on the whole PPC (pay per click) method of raising traffic levels to your site. This is fine, when your activley making money from your site (or just have money to burn…) but I struggle to see how a personal site, with some elements of monetization- could gain from spending what would have to be a minimum of around £50/pcm (or $100 roughly…) for what would work out at about 30 clicks, assuming you more or less let google barter your ad price.

Whilst the value of trageted traffic gained from PPC sites like Google Adwords is high, that is only particularily true when you have reasonably large quantities of visitors- or at least significantly more than the 30 or so you’d recieve from £50’s worth of Google Ad’s!

So is it even worth it? Or, more to the point- is it worth spending your time "self-promoting," by commenting others blogs etc to get less targeted traffic but at a far higher quantity?

I’d say, judging from personal experience, that if your site/blog is not centered around a particular product/or personal service that has a "retail value," and is instead just a personal blog with some scope to make some money through advertising- no, its not worth it initially. Probably in the near future, when your site is seeing far more hits per month, but im inclined to say that to get the ball rolling anyway- a hit is a hit, and if your using advertising as your main source of income from the site- does it matter why the audience are there in the first place???

Obviously, Google would disagree, arguing all sorts of various settings etc that can be changed to accomodate it, lovingly described in their blog.

Im all for the personal promotion. Cheap, easy, just costs time.

UK Web Hosting

Okay, One of the hardest things to find is decent web hosting that doesnt cost the earth, that also has real customer support. I’ve found there are loads of US sites offering great deals but it’s almost impossible to speak to someone fast if you need help.

UKHost4u are running a 30-day free trial on any package, and their cheapest after the trial is £39.99 for the year. It includes about 2GB of storage, but also has a 100GB transfer allowance and loads of other benefits. (Like being able to call a UK number and get it answered by a human for one!)

Im using my trial now on another site temporarily, and I’ve been impressed so far. See what you think,

their website is here.

EDIT : UKHost4U are now offering 10% off over christmas as well ( I just got an email… ) Discount Code is - AFW10

Online Roulette. Is it possible to double your money with chances better than 50/50???

Okay, so its pretty easy to double your money playing roulette. Put all your money on "all reds, (or blacks)" and hope for the best.

Of course this way naturally means your 100% as likely to go bust as you are to clear up.

I’ve been trying with alot of perseverance to ensure a way I heard about actually works.

I signed up to any old online casino- (bear with me on this, I reccommend you DONT sign up to any old online casino) and started playing the online roulette. Most sites have a "free play" option, and for a short while this is what I did, so i didint risk losing any money. Ironically, I actually did quite well, and wished part of me had played for cash.

Okay, heres the technique. It is based on the fact all roulette tables work using Random Number Generators (RNG’s), meaning that there will ALWAYS be a 50/50 chance as to wether or not you will win or lose. The idea is simple and effectivley very easy, but you will only increace your money very slowly. But it pays off!

Wager £1 (or $1, whatever currency suits) and place this on either All Red or All Black. Not on both. Spin, and hope to win. You did? Great! - Repeat the steps above again. (But stay on the same colour you picked first time round!!!)

You diddn’t? Rats. Dont worry, your still in luck. Next round, put £2 ( double £1 ) on the same colour you did the first time. Spin and cross your fingers. If you win, you’ll have still made a "profit" of £1, as you’ll have lost £1, bet £2 and made double, = £4.

If this seems a little confusing the way I’ve written it down, give it a go yourself on a free table. There are loads of them about.

Assuming that again, you lost- dont worry… Put double £2 (£4) on the same colour and spin again. If you win, youll still have only made a pound but you wont have lost anything.

In the irritatingly and frankly nerve racking instance that you KEEP losing, say 6 times, you probably be putting double £16 on the same colour and spinning. Hopefully, by this point you’ll win and all will be fine. However, this is where it is important to find a good roulette table to play at at an online gambling site. If the table has a £1 minimum bet, and a table max of £500 - you can only "lose" a certian number of times (9, to be precise.)  You want to find a table with the highest table max and the lowest table minimum. So far, I’ve found one that has a £1 minumum and a £5000 maximum. Virgin Casino’s offer this, and they double your first deposit up to £50. This is ideal, becuase on a table with a £500 maximum you could in theory have an awful streak and the only way to win would be to bet double £256 - which you cant. So you’d be screwed.

This is why high table max is so important. And the smaller you start (my example was £1) the more chances you have to win within that table. Also, note how the amount you’ll win each spin is whatever you original bet was.

Taking advantage of this can, potentially earn you alot of money, as long as you are careful and have nerves of steel sometimes. No matter how much this might limit your chances of losing, gambling is still gambling, and you could lose alot of money.

Saying that, Ive not lost everything yet, but make sure you have alot in your account to increase your chances!

-Take advantage of sign up bonuses at online casinos. Most have them in some form or another.

Im obviously not going to take any responsibility for anyone who tries this and screws it. You know what you need to do, but Im just passing on info. Im also not going to run around saying I make £XXXXX /week from this. I dont, and I dont try to. But, its alot of fun for small stakes becuase you could do quite well. Just dont blame me if it all goes tits up!

Good Luck, you dont need it (quite as much)
